It is a known fact that the native troops in India have staged a rebellion which was aimed at toppling the colonial power of Britain. Being among the most well-known rebellions in world history, the uprising was known as the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857.

The Sepoy mutiny of 1857 is also called the Indian rebellion that took place in that year. Most of this activity was focused in Northern India. There were about three different centers of this uprising. These were Gwalior, Delhi and Kanpur. Lucknow and Jansi were two areas that were also involved.
